This session will focus on laughter as a survival tool during the Holocaust. We will examine the lives of numerous survivors who all used humor as a means of maintaining humanity during the worst inhumanity in recent history. While survival during the Holocaust was mainly a function of luck, the ability to maintain a reason for living and foster spiritual resistance were key factors in getting from day to day and even moment to moment. We will discuss examples of humor and other forms of spiritual resistance as we examine an important facet of the experience of survivors.
